This was one of the first major character animation contracts that I worked on. This
was part of a risk management video that we did for the California Office of Risk and Insurance
Management, or ORIM. The basic idea of these little shorts was to have the little aliens demonstrate
a particular bad driving habit, which would then be followed by the usual boring lecture on the
proper technique. There were 7 of these animations in all introducing each section, while following
the aliens on their trip to the futuristic ORIM station on earth. |
This particular clip is the third short of the seven. The Characters were built by Randy
Wall, as were most of the ships and scenery. Pavel Pranevsky Built the Pig-Garbage worker, which was
also textured and rigged by randy. I built the interior of the garbage truck, with the exception of
the break handle, burger and soda, which was modeled by Ben Neall. And I animated everything, with the
exception of the first and last trafic shots, which were done by Casey Fay.
Inrerestingly enough, I also ended up doing the sound design for all 7 shorts, as well as
some particularly brilliant composoting work (I in my not-so-humble opinion) on many of them. Not bad
for a fledgleling animator. When all was said and done, the client was so pleased that they actually
invited the crew down for the tapes first showing, and gave plaques and award certificates out to
everyone who worked on the video. Yay us!
